Purba Champaran is one of the 38 districts in Bihar. The district is also known as East Champaran and Motihari. It is one of the 6 districts of Tirhut division. The head quarter of the district is Motihari . It has 27 blocks. The total population of the district is 3,939,773 and the area is 3,968 sqkm. Rice Paddy (Home of Basmati rice), Sugar Cane, Jute and Lentils. are the main agricultural crops. Sugar Factories and Button Factory are the main industry. Gandak and Sikrahna are the main river. The literacy rate is 37.54% . The female literacy rate is 24.27% . The male literacy rate is 49.31% .
